Crime in Medački džep (Josip Krmpotić)

On 13 October 2016, the County Court in Zagreb pronaunced the accused Jospi Krmpotić guilty for war crime against civilians and punished him with 3 years of imprisonment. Jospi krmpotić is pronaunced quilty for second count of the indictment that he ordered that houses of the civilian population in the area of Lički Čitluk, Počitelj and Njegovan to be burnt and destroyed. For the first count of the indictment he was aquitted due to the lack of evidence.

The proceedings against Josip Krmpotić for a crime against the civilian population, Article 120, paragraph 1 OKZ RH, and crime against prisoners of war, Article 122, OKZ RH.

INDICTMENT (SUMMARY)

In the indictment it is alleged that Josip Krmpotić in September 1993 during the military action  “Džep 93” breached the regulations of international law. In the town of Lički Čitluk he allowed his subordinates, the members of the Croatian army, to kill four unidentified war prisoners, members of the so called Army RSK, and the accused further ordered the houses of the civilian population in the area of Lički Čitluk, Počitelj and Njegovan to be burnt and destroyed.
