British Minister of Justice met representatives of civilian war victims in Sisak
As
part of his official visit to Croatia, Lord Tom McNally, Minister of
State in the Ministry of Justice of the United Kingdom of Great Britain
and Northern Ireland, on February 21, 2012t met with representatives of civilian war victims from Sisak-Moslavina County.
The
meeting, organized by joint efforts of Documenta - Centre for Dealing
with the past and the UNHCR representative in Croatia, aimed to once
again emphasize the necessity of a comprehensive compensation of
civilian victims of war invalids, civilian and family members who are
closest to the dead or missing during the war events.
During
the meeting, in a brief and emotional testimonies mothers, wifes and
daughters tragically killed and missing - Vjera Solar (mother of murdered
Ljubica Solar, Sisak, September 18, 1991), Jasna Borojević (husband Stevo
Borojević killed in Sisak on September 06, 1991),
Milja Bojinović (her daughter Željka Bojinović was killed in Trnjani village near
Sisak on August 22, 1991), Đurđa Gmaz (mother of Zrinka Gmaz,
killed on the Kupa river banks near Stara Drenčina, on July 16, 1991) and Marica Katić (her parents Kate and Nikola Dumbović went missing from their home in village Gore Petrinja on December 25, 1991) - once again
reminded the British minister on all problems they're facing regarding their rights as civil war vicitims in Croatia.
On
behalf of Documenta, Milena Čalić Jelić and Eugen Jakovčić, members of a team researching the needs of civilian victims of war in
Croatia, highlight the need for making
the decision to give up collection of litigation costs of all
plaintiffs who have failed to claims for damages the death of a loved ones.
During
the meeting with the British Minister all present
emphasized the importance of the National Programme and the
establishment of the Fund for compensation of war victims which should be prepared in accordance with the Basic Principles and
Guidelines on the Right to a Remedy and Reparation for victims of
serious violations of international human rights and serious violations of international humanitarian law and the UN.
