75th ANNIVERSARY OF THE LIBERATION OF ZAGREB
It was precisely on this day, 8 May 1945, that the first Partisan units entered Zagreb, crossing the Savski bridge. With the occasional skirmish with the remaining Ustasha and Nazi units, they gradually approached the city centre from the south and east. Finally, after four years of war, all those persecuted by the Ustasha regime could breathe a sigh of relief. Apart from those who came out to greet the Partisans in Savska street, the entire Zagreb was mainly empty and quiet, excluding the sounds of gunfire on the foothills of Sljeme. A ceremonial procession of the victorious army was held the next day.
Liberation is brought up in very different ways in interviews with Slavica Kanić Detelić, Zlatko Sinobad, Vera Winter and Siniša Maričić.
